Tachibana no Masamichi (橘正通)

TACHIBANA no Masamichi (year of birth and death unknown) was a poet (classic Japanese and Chinese styles) of the mid Heian period. He was a child of Otoneri (Royal Attendant) TACHIBANA no Sanetoshi who himself was 4th generation grandchild of Udaijin (Minister of the Right) TACHIBANA no Ujikimi. Kaganokuni no jo (provincial governor of Kaga), Kunai no Shojo.

He studied at the Daigakuryo (Bureau of Education under the ritsuryo system) and studied under MINAMOTO no Shitago. He served as tutor to Imperial Prince Tomohira and mentored KI no Tadana and others. According to commentary in "Honcho shinsen den" (Lives of Japanese Spirit Immortals), he is said to have ventured to the Kingdom of Koryo in Korea. In the work 'Onnashinomiya Utaawase' of 972 etc is output of poetry is known and works remain including: "Shika Wakashu" (anthology of poems collected by Imperial command), "Honcho Monzui" (Anthology of waka poems and prose written in classical Chinese), "Ruiju Kudaisho" (anthology of Chinese poetry) and "Zenshusaitaku Shiawase," etc.
